Birmingham City Council is using Christmas trees to create biomass electricity.
It is collecting the trees from residents up until the 31st January, and the service is free of charge. All the trees that are collected will be chipped and retained within the UK to create biomass electricity.
Cllr John O’Shea, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Parks at Birmingham City Council, said: “We’re pleased to be able to offer our free-of-charge service for the responsible disposal of unwanted Christmas trees.
“They aren’t the easiest items to get rid of, so this gives people a simple and convenient option rather than making a booking for one of our Household Recycling Centres.
“There are also some other great options out there which benefit good causes for a small fee, such as the St Mary’s Hospice service, which are a fantastic alternative in the season of goodwill, if you are able to support them.”
